Building Site
An old friend of mine owns Shootmedia Ltd and he approached me to build and design the website for them. Shootmedia make films in collaboration with Channel 4, various charities and other well known people (it says all this on their site so just visit it I guess!). I find web builds are a challenge as I'm in no way a technical expert, and this 'slick' look is a bit of a departure for me too, but I'm pleased with how it's looking so far.
* You may read this post 'post' me finishing the SM site, in which case ignore certain sentances of the above.
Money Back?
4 treatments for Anna Timms' monetary advise book (Anna's got a regular column in the Guardian). I think I've covered all bases with these 4 - illustrative/ commercial/ stenciled/old fashioned. I'm awaiting to find out which cover (if any) will be published.
Soulmates stories
I've been working on a few illustrations for a new book jacket. The book is a collection of anecdotes centred around online dating, so I've drawn up a few dating scenarios (literal I know but literal is good for books isn't it?). The red and purple are from Soulmates branding.
Quiz time
I'm pitching to publish a Quiz trail booklet in Stanwick lakes. The purpose is to get visitors to explore the visitors centre, whilst helping to re-inforce the educational aspects of the site. They can also have a bit of fun colouring in the birds. If you've got a hour spare (it's quite difficult), have a go at the wordsearch.
Picador
Lee at Picador approached me to produce 2 presenters for Clive James and Roberto Bolano - a hugely popular Latin American author. They list the authors' back catalogue and forthcoming titles. Clive James turns 70 this year incase you're wondering what the cover is all about. These go to a book trade fair in October '09.
More at Stanwick
I'm currently working on the education centre at Stanwick Lakes. I was briefed to do something more contemporary and youthful - quarrying is hardly the most stimulating subject for a teenager (is it?) so the design, imigary and information was kept as brief, simple & straightforward. The Rockingham Forest Trust run Stanwick Lakes.
Stanwick Lakes
Stanwick Lakes has got a new multi million pound visitors centre and I've been helping a company call Meticulous Ltd. to do the graphics. Meticulous have designed, built and furnished the whole interior of Stanwick Lakes visitor centre - it's not quite finished at the mo but is looking great in there all the same. Heres a photo of one interactive board I did for them and the faux etched glass in the cafe there (you can see the pedal power board I did for them in the background too).
Another One
Like bleeding routemaster buses, you wait all day and then 2 come along at once, I got another book cover designed and published. How to Write was written subsequent to the series of booklets the guardian produced last summer - How to Write Comedy, How to Write Crime etc etc. Guardian books wanted a more commercial feel to the book jacket than the booklets had, so I kept it simple with a large embossed heading.
Summery Seasidey
Sara at the Guardian briefed me to create 'British Summertime' artwork to help promote a recent deluge of summer themed books they are publishing. I knocked these pair up.
My first book
I'm pretty happy that I've got my first book cover published. It's for called Two Wheels by Matt Seaton. Being an avid bi-cyclist myself (I sometimes ride my wifes' ladies racer), it was a brilliant cover to do. The books is a collection of Matt's columns from the Guardian newspaper - it's really interesting, informative and humorous and I hope my illustration gets that across.
THE WALL
Over the last few months, I've worked on a plethora of print ads for Guardian Books. I've been trying to think of the best way to exhibit these... I think (for now at least) THE WALL is the way.
Welcome
A short note to introduce my blog which is pretty much to keep you (and me) updated on my recent work and of various other bits and bobs
